E-learning as profit generator for my team

We’ve had some changes in my team in the last month – new manager and with that new initiatives and new plans. Change is good.

Our focus as a Learning and Development team is changing – we’re moving from a ‘Fulfilment model” to a “Strategic Partnership” model. Basically the old ways of scheduling courses and waiting (hoping) staff enrol is out and we are moving into consulting. This is good on a few different levels (personal and professional development, positioning of L&D within the business etc) the main advantage is that e-learning will be one of our key offerings.

The plan is to generate revenue for my team through internal e-learning development. This is a major shift for me. I have always worked in HR functions that are support business units – not P&Ls !

So I have been reviewing our e-learning strategy and I have had to shift my focus – it’s a bit daunting! Thinking about what projects will give us the initial $ boost that we need. At the end of the year I need to justify our recent expenditure on Lectora and build the case for another 12 month license..all this depends on how business goes.
At the end of the day this is also good for the quality of our e-learning – if it’s not effective, engaging and well designed  then we won’t sell..

I like a challenge !
